I’m a dance mom.

Untitled

That’s me.  That’s M’s dance costume, upside down, to let the tutu get fluffier.

She started taking dance classes in January.  Her dance teacher does classes in sessions.  This is her second session and the ‘recital’ session.

So we have a costume.  We have a required hairstyle.  We have rehearsal dates.

Can you believe it?

How did we get to this point?  Isn’t she just my baby?

Nope.  She’s my big girl.  She takes dance classes.  She goes to preschool.  She takes piano and voice lessons.  She’s not a baby anymore.  She’s got her own schedule.  She’s got her own obligations.  She’s  a busy kid.

I hope she enjoys the whole stage performance experience.

Now, I just have to learn how to put her hair in a bun!  It feels practically impossible!

Pinterest, here I come!

Do you know about Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector?

One of my friends downloaded it on her phone and told a group of us about how addicting this game truly is.  I’m always a sucker for a new app/game, so I downloaded.

Now you can call me the crazy cat app lady.

Untitled

That’s my little yard.

The premise of the game is simple.  Create a yard interesting enough for cats to hang out in.  These cats visit your yard and leave you fish.  They can either give silver or gold fish.  Those fish are currency.  Those fish are what you use to purchase new toys and furniture to entice more cats to visit.  And it just cycles on and on from there.

I recently earned enough gold fish to purchase the yard expansion which allowed me to get the inside of the house.

It truly was a happy day.

It’s also a very low maintenance game.  The cats only come when you leave the app.  You have to make sure that there is enough food for the cats to visit.  And when you pop back into the app, there could be cats there just hanging out.  You can also have rewards waiting for you, which are their gifts of fish.

Did I mention that these cats are all so super cute?!

It’s also a great way for M to play with cats and not have an allergic reaction.

WIN WIN!

Tell me what kind of game apps do you play with?  If it’s interesting enough, I’ll try it out and review it here too!

All this time, I always thought that the jealousy would come from M.  I always thought that M would be the more jealous one.  She’s my first born.  For the first three years of her life, she’s been the only one.  Naturally, I thought that she would be the one that would act out whenever she’d see me hold her sister.

Nope.

It’s all K.

K, at 15 (almost 16) months old, is very possessive.

Whenever she sees me cuddle with her big sister, she immediately wants in.

Neh! (No!)”  K says, as she pulls my arm away from her big sister.

Arrr-mah (Arm)” K says, as she takes my arm away from her big sister and hugs it for herself.

Poor M.

Sometimes I feel so bad at the amount of attention I give K at the moment.  K is at that age where she needs to be watched like a hawk and I feel like M gets a little put aside.  M has been very understanding and will usually find ways to work with us, or will usually find ways to entertain herself.

I try to steal little moments with M.  It’s so interesting to see K’s reaction.  I wasn’t expecting K to be so territorial with me.

It’s a good thing this mommy has two “arr-mahs,”  one for each of my girls.

If you’ve followed my blog for a long time, you will know that after I got married, I struggled with finding effective ways of meal planning and grocery shopping.

Search grocery shopping and you’ll come across several blog posts about my struggles.

#thestruggleISreal

Here’s the new system I’ve implemented and it almost seems like something that should have been easy enough to implement from the beginning.

While planning the week out in my planner, I take a moment to write out five dishes that I think I can make for the week.  Why five?  Because I usually end up making more than we need and end up with leftovers that we can carry over into another night’s dinner.

I don’t assign a specific night.

Easy peasy.

Then, I take that list and shop accordingly.

It’s like a light bulb moment.  It’s a low pressure system.  I still get the freedom of cooking whatever I want, when I want, just based on the list of foods I set for the week.  Why did I make it so hard on myself before?

The only difficulty I have is picking the five meals.

To fix that, I am going to list ALL the meals that I have cooked, I can cook, or would like to try and cook.  As recipes get tried and approved, I will add them to this list.  Then, I will have a master list of foods to choose from so I don’t have to wreck my brain trying to think of five different dinners.

We’re on week three of this system and it’s been working.  Grocery shopping has been fast and easy.  Food wasting has been the lowest it has been in a long time.  This system also pushes me to really try those recipes that I have been dreaming of testing.

Looks like it’s time for me to resurrect the Joe, Party of 4 food blog!

What’s your meal planning/grocery shopping system?

Fridays are M’s sharing day at the preschool.  Each week, they share an item that corresponds to the letter of the week.

When the letter M became the letter of the week, my M was so excited.  She was going to share herself!

I was volunteering that week, so I was very excited to see what she was going to say about herself.

It went something like this…

M: I’m sharing myself because my name starts with the letter M.  I like Pokemon and I like to sing Taylor Swift songs.

Teacher:  What is your favorite Taylor Swift song to sing?

M begins to sing a verse from Taylor Swift’s “Clean.”

Teacher:  Does anyone want to ask M a question about her sharing?

Other kid:  Where did you come from?

M:  My mommy’s tummy.

At the end of class, her teacher came up to me telling me how happy she was that M was so confident enough to sing in front of everyone in the class.  She was so delighted at her confidence and her performance.

I’m hoping that as she gets older, she will not lose her confidence and ease with public speaking.  I know that I’ve always had a hard time being in front of a crowd just talking.  While I love performing, I am terrified of public speaking.  I hope that she will never develop that fear speaking in public.

That day was definitely a ‘proud mommy’ moment!

Ok.  I’ll admit it.

I’m getting lazy.

And it’s around this time that I usually drop the blog and take another unannounced break.

I’m not going to lie, it’s hard keeping this up.

I have a good long list of blog topics to write about, and I’m too lazy to do them

Mainly because a lot of them involve pictures and it’s a little bit more of a hassle to add pictures to the blog.  There’s the watermarking, the uploading, the html adding…

What happened to the days when I just aimlessly typed whatever I wanted and it didn’t have to make sense?

I guess they are gone now.  I mean, I had to grow up eventually, right?  This blog needed to gain some maturity and some direction.  I’m not just some over emotional young adult discovering this new platform of blogging to express myself.  All the ‘teen angst’ I was actually too old for is just not who I am anymore.

So, I push through.

I give into the laziness and write a rambling post like this.  And then I push through

I will push through the long list of blog topics I have in the hopes that people will want to read what I have to offer.

But tonight, I ramble.

At least it’s not giving up and abandoning the blog… AGAIN!

I’ve got a long list of topics to tackle and I can’t be lazy about it anymore.  It’s time to push through and get it done.

What do you do when you find yourself too lazy to blog?

Disclaimer: The item featured in this ‘Shopping small’ post is purchased by me. I am not sponsored by the store featured.

I love Harry Potter.  I love coffee.  I love mugs.

When I saw this, I HAD to have it.

I loved it so much, I bought more than one and shipped it out to my brother, another Harry Potter fan!

The Pink Polk Dot Custom Creations is an only store found on Etsy.  Click here to go directly to the shop.  This shop has so many different designs on mugs and reusable coffee cups.  This shop even has glitter dipped items!

Glitter!

There is an endless selection of items in this shop.

The mug arrived packaged so secure.  It came in very good condition.  As you see in the photo below, the shop owner adds a bit of flair and fun in her packaging.  I totally loved the little purple tinsel.  It was such a cute way to make her packaging stand out from other shops.

Customer service is also excellent.  The shop owner responds so quickly and is so accommodating and friendly.  That personal and friendly service is why I love shopping small.

Untitled

I’ve already used mine several times, and I still get a kick out of it!  I absolutely love it!

To clean the mug, the shop specifies that it should not be soaked and should not be placed in the dishwasher.  These mugs are to only be handwashed.

Seriously, isn’t it the greatest?!

Click here for the direct link to the item.

If there are any other small/handmade shops you’d like me to check out, please leave a comment below.  If I feel like it’s a good fit for myself and this blog, I’d gladly purchase an item and leave a review.

One day it rained.  I had a physical therapy appointment for my voice (I have nodes, click here) and decided to leave the girls with my mom.  Thank God she was in town!  It’s hard enough dragging along two kids to places they don’t want to be, add rain, and it’s practically a nightmare!

Anyway.

After the appointment, I ran some errands.  There were several things I needed to buy from several places.

I finished my errands right around lunch time, and I received a call from my mom.

“Buy lunch.”

The McDonald’s was the closest and quickest food I could think of to buy, so into the drive-thru I went.  I ordered food, and I went home.

In a rush to get inside to feed the girls, I shoved the milks (they came with the Happy Meals) into my purse.  I brought the food and other items inside and began eating.

That night while in bed, I remembered that the milks were still in my purse.  True to form, I was too lazy to go downstairs to remove the, but vowed to remember to move them in the morning.

A few days later, while clearing the area around the purses, Hubby finds a sweater that smelled like rotten milk.  Unable to figure out the source, I washed it, and went about my day.

The smell of rotten milk lingered in that area, and we couldn’t quite figure out why.

A few days after the sweater incident, Hubby was going through the purses when I hear him gasp in disgust.

My black Coach purse was the source of the offensive odor.

I FORGOT TO REMOVE THE MILKS!

They exploded in my purse and spilled rotten milk inside.  It was disgusting.

Luckily, my wallet and other everyday things were inside the diaper bag.  Only a few items were left in that purse and they went straight into the trash!

I had no idea what to do with my purse.  I didn’t want to throw it out without trying to save it.

So I popped it into the washing machine.

Thank God, it came out perfect!  The smell was gone, the purse was still in great condition, it was like nothing happened!

Lesson learned.  No matter what time of the day or night, if you remember that milk is stored somewhere it should be, then remove it right away!

Blech!

A year or two ago, I joined the Top Mommy Blogs network.

The idea was to help generate traffic by climbing the ranks of the network through reader votes.  All the readers had to do was click on the little button I would paste at the end of each blog post.

At my best, I was within the top 50 blogs of my category.

Now that I’ve taken a year off of actively pasting the button on the bottom of entries, I’ve dropped down to around #150-ish in my category and about #570-ish overall.

Can we change that?

I’m going to start pasting that little badge at the bottom of each blog post and all you have to do is click it!  There is no sign-up.  There is no subscribing.  Just click the badge.

Clicking the badge will send you to the Top Mommy Blogs voting page.   If you like my blog, please consider clicking the ‘yes’ side of the screen.  Clicking that will send you to the actual Top Mommy Blogs site where you can browse other blogs, or you can close your browser and call it a day!

Click the badge each day after a new blog post is posted.  One vote per day will help me climb the ranks once again and help me gain more exposure.

Seems easy, right?
