Living life in the carpool lane..

Archive for the ‘She worked hard for the money!’ Category

I haven’t worked since July.  I’m still employed, but because of these pregnancy complications, I haven’t been back to work since the subchrionic hemorrhage back during the Fourth of July Weekend.

Around that time, a friend of mine got into Jamberry nails and I loved all the designs I was seeing.  I felt like I needed to get into that.

In September, I took the plunge.

I became a Jamberry Independent Nail Consultant.

In mid-September, I opened up my launch party that lasted about a month.  That party sold about a little over $250 in sales.  As the consultant, I earned 30% of the sales in commission AND as the host, I got about 8 nail wraps for free and at half-off price.

Since then, I’ve gotten at least one small order a week and the commissions keep coming in.  It’s a pretty good deal.

The plus side is that I’ve been doing it mainly online, on my Facebook account.  Since I can’t physically go out and do much, my little space in the online community has been super helpful in this little business venture.

Jamberry Nail Wraps are these awesome nail wraps create the awesome look of nail art without using a ton of nail polish or paying for expensive manicures and/or pedicures.  A sheet of nail wraps is totally affordable and you can get at least two manicures or pedicures per sheet!

I’ve been in love with them since the first time I put them on and I’m so glad that I can make a little bit of money off of selling them.

If you are interested in buy, hosting a party, or even selling yourself, visit my website: http://buggyjams.jamberrynails.net/

While the blog isn’t meant for promoting this business, every once and awhile I will post about my Jamberry business just to update and hope that some of my readers will be interested and place an order.  You can always leave a comment for me with any questions or inquiries regarding my Jamberry business venture!

I’d love to share the joy of pretty nails!

This month, I’m hosting a holiday party.  I will post more details in another blog entry.  In the meantime, please consider the following:

Join this FB Group, Rachel’s Jamberry Holiday Party, and leave a comment telling me you found it from this blog.  Then invite your friends to join in on the fun!  If you invite a friend, and you AND your friend place an order with me, I will send you a free half-sheet of wraps, designs will vary.  Anyone that takes advantage of the Buy 3, Get 1 Free deal will be entered into a drawing to win a mini-heater ($19 value) or an application kit ($12.50 value).

Hubby made an excellent point this past weekend.

It’s common knowledge in our household, and among my friends and family that I’m completely burnt out.

Hubby says, “The reason we are burnt out is because we don’t rest on the weekends.”

Oh.  Yeah.

For the past few weekends, it’s been one thing after another.  It’s been pumpkin patches, birthday parties, zoos, farmers markets, malls, lunches, dinners, parks… you name it.. we went there.

He’s got a point.  Sometimes, you just need to rest.

So that’s what we are going to do this weekend.  We are going to sleep in, we’re going to stay at home.. we are going to rest.

Except, there is still lots to do in the reorganization of the second bedroom.  There’s a lot of fix in our storage area.  There’s a lot to do…

Don’t forget the never ending laundry…

So, we’ll rest.. but not rest.. and hopefully not feel so burned out.

I have to admit, there’s a lot going on right now..

Work is just taking all my time away during the day.  Then home life is just as hectic.

On top of trying to keep from drowning in laundry, there’s a little person I have to make sure doesn’t bonk her head on any and every hard surface there is in our apartment.  On top of that, I have to make sure she eats.  On top of that, I have to make sure the Hubby eats.  On top of that, we’ve been doing a massive reorganization of the apartment.  On top of that, I’ve got a craft blog to keep up.  On top of that, I’ve got several projects for a friend’s wedding I need to finish.

Isn’t life great?!

I know when things get hectic like this, something has to give.  But what?

With all that’s going on, I feel like the blog is suffering.  The stories are few.  I’m just trying to keep my head above water.

I told myself that when I started this blog I wouldn’t fill it with useless complaints.  I told myself I wouldn’t make this blog all “woe is me” and “my life sucks,” because I know very well that it doesn’t.  We just go through ups and downs.  We just occasionally find ourselves in a funk, but what’s so great about it is that it’s only temporary.

Well, I’m definitely going through a funk right now.  I’m desperate for a career change.  I seriously can’t see myself doing this for the rest of my life anymore.  Maybe it’s the burn out, maybe it’s a real longing for change.  I don’t know.  All I know is, I’m not 100% happy with where my career is right now.

But I’ll give it time.

It’s just a funk.

I’m working on pushing my way out of it.  Maybe that’s why I’ve been so desperate to get this apartment reorganization done.  Making change that will actually get accomplished will make me feel so productive.  I need to know I can make a change happen, even if its as simple as an apartment reorganization.

If you see the blog suffer a bit, let me know.  If you find that the posts are starting to become more pessimistic, let me know.

If there is anything you ever wish to have me discuss, review, or try… let me know.

I promise to keep my complaining to a minimum..

Not gonna lie, I’m kinda starting to feel a little burned out.

Work has been super crazy busy, then I come home, and it’s second shift.. the mommy shift.

Work has been pretty much non-stop for 8 eight hours.  It’s not a completely bad thing.  Being really busy DOES make the time go so much faster and before I know it, it’s time to go home.

But then I feel like I get no rest.

I get home before M and Hubby do, usually that time is spent preparing dinner, or working on some craft projects.

My favorite times after work are when I can work on a craft project.  The hustle and bustle of my day job actually helps my creativity flow and I’ve been able to crank out a few good cards and scrapbook layouts.

Other times, it’s straight to the kitchen to start dinner.  Then, in the middle of cooking, M and Hubby usually get home and then it’s non-stop with the toddler until bedtime.

More often than not, these days, I’ve been falling asleep before she does.

I wish I could just concentrate on one thing.  Being a mom.

Ok.. two things.  Being a crafter.  Being a mom.

Ok.. three things.  Being a wife.  Being a crafter.  Being a mom.

Ok.. four things.  Keeping the apartment clean.  Being a wife  Being a crafter. Being a mom.

Well.. I guess it isn’t as simple as I thought.

I just want more hours in the day, but doesn’t everyone?

I’m exhausted.  I need a break.  I nice good loooooooong sleep.

Thank God it’s Friday.

Going to bed on a Sunday always brings a bit of dread.

The next morning will be Monday morning.. and it’s off to work I go.

I’m still dreaming and scheming of an opportunity to work from home.

I would never ask to stop working IF I could find a nice and LEGIT job that allows me to work from home.

So what have I been doing?

I’ve been trying to focus on my crafting.. turning it into more than just a hobby.

I’ve been able to get about 300 or so followers on my FB page.  My blog has regular content on it, added on Mondays and Wednesdays, click here to see my craft blog.  I’ve gotten a few orders on my Etsy page, which is allowing me to boost my ratings on there.  Hopefully that will add to my credibility on that site and I would start getting more purchases when I add more inventory.

I’ve been setting goals for my shop.

Starting in September, I am going to purchase some clear card boxes to hold several cards to make card sets, both for Christmas and my store.  I’m also going to look into purchasing a postal scale.  That will allow me to print my postage from home and will save me more time than always taking trips to the post office.

I’ve created my first video tutorial.  It’s definitely not much, but it’s a start.  There’s a huge learning curve to editing and creating these videos and I hope that as I keep going I will get better.  Hubby has been really supportive about helping me find a better set up and helping me with ideas on how to get this video goal attained.

I know that it’s not much.  But it’s a start…

What would YOU do if you could create your own “work from home” job?!

I leave for work early.  I leave so early that it’s not even light out.

I don’t like leaving before the sun.  It makes it feel so much earlier than it really is.  This girl loves her sleep, so to wake up and be out of the house before the sun is heartbreaking!

This is my view every morning while I walk to my car.  Cold and dark, and I wish I lived in a place with an attached garage.

I hate walking through the dark cold to get to my car.

It makes the workweek seem so much more depressing..

Tomorrow is Monday..

Any work week complaints you want to share?

Ok, I admit it.

I’m a little addicted to websites that offer points for doing things like reading emails, posting articles and printing coupons..

Lets see.. these are the following sites that I tend to frequent.  By the way, clicking the link will send you to a referral page, so if you think you want to join, click the link and I’ll get the referral!

MyPoints.com – They have various online offers.  You can shop, print coupons, play games, read emails.. all for points.  This is the one I use the most.  I’ve gotten lots of gift cards to Target from simply reading emails and doing surveys.  Even if you don’t qualify for a survey, they still give you 10 points for trying.  There is no referral link, so if you want to check it out leave me an email address in the comments and I’ll be happy to email you!

Gather.com – Writing articles, posting pictures and videos.. commenting on others content.  That’s what gets you points on this site.  I still haven’t figured out how they determine how many points to give but its fun reading articles.  I usually post scenery pictures so I don’t give away too much personal information, like family members and such.

Swagbucks.com – This seems to be the hardest for me to get points from.  This one seems to take the most work, but I can get a few points throughout the day.  I’m not good at catching those “swagcodes” they require to earn points.  But, it’s fun to go around and look for them when you have the time.

I’m addicted to these point-accumulating sites because I love getting those gift cards!  Every little way to save money helps and those gift cards are just the way to help.  I’ve gotten lots of Target ones for our necessities and such.

If you have a little time, check it out.  And if you have any other websites, let me know and send your referral link!
