I’m brewing something up for the month of February.

It’s definitely going to help keep me blogging on a daily basis, but it’s also going to get my brain cells working again.

I’m taking tomorrow off on the blog to get my brain going..

See you in Februrary!

Yesterday was K’s one month birthday.

Can you believe it’s been one month already?

She’s definitely grown a lot since her birth.  Her last weigh-in was at about three weeks old and she weighed about 7lbs, 11oz.  By now she’s got to be at least 8lbs.  She definitely feels like it.  Nursing her and only using one arm can get really tiresome, really fast.  I can feel her weight against my arm and that’s definitely a change from when she first came into this world.

She wakes up for several hours several times a day.  When she is awake, she is alert and loves to look around at her surroundings.  I love watching her little eyes dart around the room.  She is attracted to lights and can stare at them for awhile.  Her little arms and legs flail and kick when she’s wide awake.  She opens and clothes her mouth and sometimes can get a little sound out.

Her cry is slowly changing from that familiar “newborn” cry.  She’s also developing distinct cries.  She has her hungry cry, her annoyed cry, her wet cry… I don’t know if I ever noticed it with M, but I notice the difference in the cries with K.

Two days ago, we used the last of her newborn-sized diapers and officially moved her on to size 1 diapers.  She had been ready for a week or two, but we wanted to use up the rest of the newborn diapers before we sized her up.  I can’t believe how fast she out grew those newborn-sized diapers!

She’s also out grown several of her newborn sleepers, but that was a week or so ago.  She now fits snuggly in 0-3mo sized sleepers and onsies.  She no longer swims in that size anymore.  My baby is definitely growing.

Happy One Month, Little K.  We love you so much and love how complete you’ve made our family feel.  Keep growing and developing.  May God continue to bless you always.

Stuck on a dinner idea?  We’ve been looking to Pinterest for some inspiration.

Sometimes, before we go grocery shopping, I will scour Pinterest for some meal ideas.  We take inventory on the types of meats we have in the freezer, and I just do a search for those types of meals.

We seem to have tons of chicken in our fridge.  I don’t know how we accumulated so much chicken, but we have it.  So we decided we needed to use it.

I went on Pinterest and pinned these two recipes.

Untitled Untitled

These two recipes were perfect for our family.  They were quick and flavors were good enough for M to enjoy.

Now, when I find a recipe, I have a difficult time following them precisely, unless I’m baking.

So when I find a recipe, I tend to just take the “idea” of the meal and make it my own.

For the Chicken Asparagus Lemon Stir Fry, we didn’t have any lemon juice, so I didn’t use it.  I also added mushrooms with the asparagus.  The recipe called for a certain amount of ginger, but I decided to lessen it because I didn’t want it to be too harsh for M.  However, I did make sure that we got the hint of a ginger flavor in the dish.  I would like to try it with lemon juice eventually.  I just have to remember to buy some next time I want to make this dish.  My version of the dish was M and Hubby approved, but I would love to kick up the ginger flavor eventually.

For the Honey Soy Baked Chicken Thighs, we found this recipe last minute.  The recipe states to marinate the chicken thighs overnight in the marinade, but since this was a last minute find, we only let the chicken sit in the marinade for about 10-20 minutes before we cooked them.  In this case, we saw the ingredients and just added them all to taste.  We didn’t even look at the measurements.  We wanted a good balance of the sweet from the honey and the salt from the soy sauce, and I think we found it.  The chicken smelled so good and it was most definitely M approved.  Next time we do this, we would like to let the chicken marinate overnight.

So basically, we use the Pinterest pins as more of an inspiration than a definitive recipe.  It helps give me a better idea of what to buy during our weekly grocery trips.  Sometimes, I pin a recipe that inspires me to create something completely different from the pin.  It’s all about inspiration.

How do you handle Pinterest meals?

It’s been a full work week (Mon-Fri) where its just been me and the two littles, M and K.

It’s not been easy.  In fact, I’m typing this up one-handed as both girls are napping, but K decided my arms were much more comfortable than any flat, soft surface I tried to lie her down on.  No worries.  Past experience has taught me that these babies only stay this little for so long and that I should make the most of every opportunity I have to hug, snuggle and cuddle with them.

So, please excuse any overlooked typos..

It’s definitely been chaotic.  I’m still trying to figure out the best way to make life run as smoothly as possible.  Hubby and I are still trying to figure out how best to juggle both girls when it comes to meal times and bedtimes.  It’s trial and error, but as long as both kids get fed and both kids sleep, I think we’ve been pretty successful.

The house is a mess most of the day.  Laundry piles up.  Diapers are everywhere.  Clothes are everywhere and we never know if they are clean or dirty.  Dishes pile in the sink.

Definitely chaos until Hubby comes home from work.

But, I’m embracing the chaos.  It’s only been three weeks since K’s been born.  It’s only been three weeks since I could actually move around.  It’s only been one week that I’ve been doing this on my own.

It’s a learning curve, and I’m definitely trying to figure things out one task at a time.

Today is K’s due date..

I can’t imagine being pregnant until today.  I was pretty heavy and uncomfortable at 36 weeks.  I could barely walk and I was very irritable.

I don’t know if I could survive, or if anyone else around me would survive me being pregnant for 4 more weeks.

K may have been early, and as much as I would have loved for her to stay in me until 37 weeks to avoid all the extra preemie testing and observation, I feel like everything worked out for the best.

Instead, we will be having a one month old in a few days…

Happy Due Date, Miss K… glad to have you here!

On Sunday, K turned 3 weeks old..

Three weeks.. that went fast.

She’s starting to become more aware of her surroundings.  She can hear our voices and will turn her head toward the voice that is talking to her.  She still sleeps through most of the day, but will find several hours of the day to be awake.  Those hours are usually around 6-8am..

She gives me a good 4 hours of sleep at night between feedings.. Four hours of sleep feels so much better than three hours.  It’s amazing how refreshing having that extra hour of sleep feels..

M is getting more and more adjusted to having a little sister around.  She loves to give K kisses all over.  She’s becoming a very loving big sister.

I can’t believe K has been here for three weeks already.  She feels like she’s been with our family for such a long time.  She just found her place in our little family and I love how complete we all feel.

Being at home with two kids.. they take A LOT of your time..

With one kid, I was able to set aside some time to make a few blog posts..

With two kids… not so much.

I usually try to set several blog posts and schedule them to post one day after the other..

Then I feel like I’m all set for the next week or so.. great!

Suddenly, I hit the end of all my pre-scheduled posts and I realize I don’t have time to make more.. blogging FAIL.

I’ll find my groove again… In the meantime.. I’m just going to have to admit that blogging is hard…

Click here to read about my post-pregnancy weight.

I weighed myself on January 10th, and I weighed 174.0lbs.  I lost two pounds from the first time I weighed myself on January 6th (176.6lbs).

I didn’t really do anything intentional to lose that weight.  I’ve been drinking a lot of water, cut down my sweets intake, and continued to pump and breastfeed.

I plan on getting a Fitbit.  I’m looking into this one.

I plan on using it to increase the amount of steps I will take on a daily basis.  I know that this will help me get more active and mobile to make up for the months I had on bedrest and limited mobility.  Eventually, I plan on hooking up the Xbox and the Kinect to play some dance video games to give me more opportunities for movement and calorie burning.

I plan on making better dietary choices.  Hubby and I have actually started drinking green smoothies, drinks based of either kale or spinach.  I know that I can’t cut down my food intake drastically since I am still nursing, but I do intend on making better choices of what I do put into my body.  Sadly, that means less brownies.  That also means less Pinterest dessert experimentation..

I’m hoping that it won’t take me two and a half years to lose all the baby weight like it did when I had M.  Better food choices and finding ways to be active will definitely help me get back to where I was before I got pregnant with K.  I’m hoping that these changes will happen soon.

I have so many clothes in my closet that I want to wear again.  I’d hate to see them go to waste!

Yesterday, K turned two weeks old.

Two weeks.

Can you believe it?

Two weeks!!!

These two weeks have flown by so quickly.  She’s changed so much in these past two weeks.  There is about an hour or so during the day that she stays awake.  She just stares off into space and waves her arms in slow motion like baby tai chi.  I try to talk to her during those moments she’s awake.  Sometimes, I swear she and I make eye contact.

Her face has filled out and she’s doesn’t swim around in her newborn sized sleepers.  She’s probably gained back the weight she lost right after birth and I’m hoping she’s heavier than her birth weight already.

I forgot how much two weeks can make a difference in the life of a newborn.  I forgot how quickly they grow at this stage of their lives.  I wish time would slow down just a little bit.  I want to savor every little moment I have with this little newborn of mine.  Before I know it, she’ll be running around with her older sister and I will be wondering where all the time went… again.

I weighed myself on January 6th.

176.6 lbs.

I don’t know how much I weighed right before I gave birth.

At my last check up, I was about 185lbs.  That was almost two weeks before I gave birth.

That was much heavier than I was when I was pregnant with Malia.

But there are several factors that caused this weight gain.

For starters, I was on and off of bedrest from the first trimester.. so my dream of an active lifestyle while pregnant was did not happen.

Then, I was hungry.  I was hungry all the time.  Even though I wasn’t craving fast food and junk food, I was craving food.  Korean tofu soup.  Chicken noodle soup.  Burritos.  Bahn mi sandwiches.

Ok, and then there were the brownies… M loves brownies and brownie mix has been on sale due to the holiday season.  So, yes, there were brownies.  There were a  lot of brownies.

176.6lbs

I have a plan…
