When M was younger, we used to listen to child-appropriate music in the car.  This meant that we would listen to CDs full of nursery rhymes and kid songs.

The music eventually transitioned into the Sofia The First soundtrack, and now it’s all about the Frozen soundtrack.

The music gets to be way too repetitive as we have to listen to the CDs over and over and over and over again.  While it’s super cute to hear M sing along, we do get very tired of the songs.

So, we listen to the radio.

She used to never really sing to the songs on the radio, so we never really realized she knew what she was listening to..

We were wrong.

Here are a list of songs that we had no idea M knew enough to sing along to:

The Monster – Eminem feat. Rhianna
Roar – Katy Perry
Talk Dirty – Jason Derulo
I Don’t Care – IconoPop
Turn Down For What – Lil Jon

There are probably many more that I can’t think of the moment and many more that she will surprise us with singing along.

How did we find out that she knew some of these songs?

Hubby and I have a habit of absent-mindedly singing some of these songs at home while doing some things.  Suddenly, M would finish the line to the song.  This was especially true with “Talk Dirty.”  I would hum the little musical part right before he sings, “Talk dirty to me..”  I was humming it while I was working on cards at my craft table and M was playing in the room with me.  Suddenly, M says, “Talk dirty to me..”

That was surprising and so funny.  We had her do it over and over again.

What sort of pop songs do your kids surprise you with knowing??

I am Little M’s human iPod.

I sing whatever song she wants me to sing at the drop of a dime.  This usually happens in the car…

Sing the Doc McStuffins theme song

Sing the Dora the Explorer theme song

Sing the Map song from Dora the Explorer

Sing the Backpack song from Dora the Explorer

Sing the Cinderella song from Sofia the First

Me:  Does Boots (from Dora the Explorer) have a song?
M:  Nooooooo..

It’s a good thing I really study the songs to know the lyrics.. I can’t wait til she can sing with me, or better yet, sing the songs to me!

(Hubby’s favorite song of the moment is “Grenade” by Bruno Mars.. hubby sings it on loop..)

Hubby: “I’d catch a grenade for ya…”
Me:  Would you really catch a grenade for me?
Hubby:  I guess…
Me:  What?!
Hubby:  Yes.. yes.. I’ll catch it..

Me: What about your child?
Hubby:  Yes.. but then I’d be dead..
Me: …
Hubby:  Fine.. I’ll be dead..
Me:  NO!

Hubby:  What if I just kick it?  Then we’ll both be alive..
Me:  Ok.. (sings) “I’ll kick a grenade for ya…”

Hubby: …

Me:  Oooh!  That’s going on the blog!

You know how some people say they suddenly wake up and hit this point in their life where they realize that they are old?!

I finally hit that point.

I was sitting on the couch last night, on the computer doing my homework.. I had an ice pack on my knee and a heating pad on my back.. I look up from my computer and I suddenly think to myself.. “OMG.. I’m old!”

My body is falling apart.. my back was killing me yesterday.. and my knees cannot handle running..

I’m in my late-twenties.. when did that constitute as being “old!”  My body just ain’t what it used to be..

In other news..

My running has been going well.. my knees.. specifically my right knee.. is feeling it a little bit.  It’s like the most babied part of my body at the moment..

Before I run, I sit there with the heating pad on my knees for about 20 minutes to warm them up.. during the run.. I’m wearing a knee brace.. after the run.. the knees are iced for about 15-20 minutes.. then.. before I sleep.. they get the heating pad again for about 20-30 minutes..

It’s been working so far.. so why stop..

The running schedule has had me doing a 5min brisk walk to warm up.. then two sets of 90sec jogging, 90 sec walking, 2min joggin, 2 min walking.  That has me jog/walking for a little over a mile for 23 minutes.  Not bad for someone that took an entire HOUR to do four laps around the track in high school..

Each day gets easier as I do the repetitive schedule three times a week.. by the third time.. the schedule is a breeze.. but it only gets harder and harder.. I’m ready.. bring it!

Let’s see.. Church news..

I recently went to my old Church.. the Church that I used to sing and do many, many ministries with before I moved Churches to sing for the Filipino Choir.  I went to the 5pm Saturday Mass and they were asking for someone to lead them in the singing..

I signed up for the offer.. and though I am not obligated to go every Saturday.. I am going to try my best to go there as often as I can.. it’s the least I could do.. I love that Church.. I practically grew up there..

That’s all that’s new with me for now.. who know that I’d have anything interesting going on?!?

I know every line to the Sound Of Music and can recite it along with the movie. This was because I spent a few summers watching that movie everyday growing up.

It is true.. when I was younger.. I had seen The Sound Of Music on television and fell in love with it.  My aunt bought me the VHS version of the movie as a result.

I spent many summers watching that movie.. practically EVERYDAY!!

I would recite the lines right along with the characters.. and sing the songs all the time..

I may not have the movie completely memorized off the top of my head now.. but when I do watch it.. I still can recite the lines of the movie along with the characters..

It’s one of those things that have been engraved in my long-term memory.. and will probably be something I can never forget!

Ok.. Hannah Montana.. Miley Cyrus.. yadda yadda..

Her song, “The Climb” has probably got to be one of the most mature songs I’ve heard from her.. mature in the sense that it’s actually got a great message.. and just is a great feel-good-when-down song.. it’s got great lyrics.. the music is great.. and her recording is pretty decent.

I may like Miley Cyrus.. but I never said she was a phenomenal singer..

Anyway.. I think that these lyrics can actually relate to anyone of any age.. I can almost see it
That dream I am dreaming
But there’s a voice inside my head saying
“You’ll never reach it”

Every step I’m taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking

But I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high

There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose

Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb

The struggles I’m facing
The chances I’m taking
Sometimes might knock me down
But no, I’m not breaking

I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I’m gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going

And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on

‘Cause there’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose

Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb, yeah!

There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Somebody’s gonna have to lose

Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb, yeah!

Keep on moving, keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It’s all about, it’s all about the climb
Keep the faith, keep your faith, whoa

And for your viewing pleasure.. I decided to add the video.. but this was also the first time I saw the video and realized that it totally doesn’t give the song justice.. I think it’s over-acted.. oh well..  I said I loved the song.. I never claimed the artist that sang it was perfect..

I didn’t sing for many, many years because I was always very self-conscious about my singing voice. I still cringe at the thought of hearing myself sing, and I always look for approval. I am terrified of being off-key.

Everyone knows I love to sing.  I’ve always loved to sing.. but growing up.. I NEVER sang in public.  I envy the little girls that love to sing in public.. I wish I was that brave.

I went through a period of my life when I was sooo conscious of the way I sounded.  I was absolutely terrified of being called out as out of tune.. or off-key..

My mother finally convinced me to take singing lessons at about 18 years old.. and even then.. my first singing recital.. I was absolutely terrified..

Now.. I love to sing.. with the choir.. as a soloist.. just as long as I am singing.. I am in my element.. but I will always be super conscious of my tone.. and you will never hear me brag about my singing ability..

Just because I love to sing doesn’t mean I’m really good at it.. I’m not the greatest singer.. and I will never claim to be..

I do believe that music is a part of me.. and singing will always be there..
