How was your Easter?

I’m hoping yours was a Blessed Easter Sunday.  Ours was.. well.. interesting..

Everything started on Saturday.

We went to a picnic at the Admiral Baker park.  There was to be an Easter Egg hunt for the kiddos, so we went.  Harmless enough.

The food was abundant, as to be expected when hosted by a bunch of Filipinos.

There was one food there that I have a personal rule about.  Kare-kare.  Due to previous experiences, and the little known fact that this food, although super yummy, has a reputation of spoiling really fast, I always make sure NOT to eat it unless I know it’s been freshly cooked.

I didn’t make sure of how freshly cooked this dish was, but I assumed that since the picnic had just started, everything would be ok.  So I ate it.  Hubby ate it.  My parents ate it.

Shortly after, my father in law asked us if we ate it.  Yes, we did.  He was worried.  He told us that he just had to throw it out because it was starting to show signs of being spoiled.  Oh no!!!

We were hoping that we had eaten it just before things went south and that we hopefully wouldn’t get sick!

So.. the party went on with thoughts of doubling over a toilet in the back of our heads.. but we didn’t let it phase us.  No no no..

They were preparing for the Easter Egg hunt when I noticed M starting to get a little sleepy.. Since the egg hunt was in about a half an hour, I decided to let her take a quick little cat nap..

However, by the time they were ready for the egg hunt… she wouldn’t wake up!  So I told Hubby to take her anyway, grab about 4 or 5, and we’ll do it at home..

So here’s Hubby:

We got a couple eggs, then the hosts of the picnic decided to do a Senior’s Egg Hunt, so my father in law grabbed M about 5-6 more eggs.  So much for M’s first real Easter Egg Hunt…

We left the picnic feeling very confident we avoided the food poisoning of the spoiled kare-kare.. so much so that we went down to National City and had halo-halo with ice cream on top.. went to Costco and ate cheese and salami.. and then had cheese and salami sandwhiches for dinner!

Then.. Hubby started to complain about his stomach.  Suddenly he was in and out of the bathroom.

Then.. my mom..

My dad and I thought we were pretty luckily.  While the two of them we starting to feel the effects, he and I were just fine.

Wrong!

Much later into the night, my stomach started to turn.. and into the bathroom I went.

My father, into the wee hours after midnight, was making his run into the bathroom.

This went on for the good part of Easter Sunday.  So much so, that we had to put M’s potty outside of the bathroom in case one of us was in there when she needed to go.

Needless to say, we didn’t get to go to Easter Mass.  M didn’t get to wear her fancy Easter dress.  We missed out on a yummy Easter brunch with the family.

Well… luckily, we’re all ok now.  I’m able to go to work and I think I can eat food again.

The best part?!  I lost THREE pounds!!!

Hope your Easter was happy and blessed!

Tomorrow is Easter and I’ve decided to not have a blog post that day.

It’s a day of rejoicing in the Catholic and Christian faiths.  Our Savior has risen from the dead.

Therefore, I will spend the day rejoicing at Mass and with my family.

Today there will be an Easter egg hunt at the Admiral Baker Park here in San Diego.  Hubby and I will be taking M there.

I’m hoping she will have fun.  She’s not really an outdoorsy kind of kid.  She doesn’t like walking on surfaces that aren’t solid floor or concrete.

If you stand her in grass, or sand, or dirt… she won’t move!

Did your kid ever do this?!  Share in the comments below!

Last year, Little M was two and a half months when we went to take pictures with Santa Claus.

This year, Little M was fourteen and a half months when we made an attempt to take pictures with Santa Claus.

Note that I said “attempt” and that by “attempt” I really mean “failed attempt.”

We went to the mall and saw the Santa set up.  Being so early in the season, there was no line at all.  We decided to take her in since we could take our time with it.

Upon entering the set up, I could already see the look on M’s face change.

So we went up to Santa and he tried to play with her.

Her face was starting to relax a bit so I immediately plopped her on his lap.

Big mistake!

She cried!  Oh, she cried..

She cried so hard.  The only other time I she cried this hard was during her last round of vaccinations.

I felt so bad!

Santa was totally understanding and told us this happens all the time with toddlers of that age.  He also said that some mothers have their kids just visit several times before they sit them down to take a picture.

I was so ready to set up a visiting schedule until hubby drops some words of wisdom.

“Why are we going to put her through this several times to get used to it just for one picture?!”

He’s right.  I hate when he’s right.

So this year, we are gonna skip her picture with Santa and hope that next year she will be better.

I just hope she’s ready for the Easter bunny next spring!!!

I’ve been so busy this past weekend that I have neglected to enter a blog entry for a few days now.

It’s ok.. absence makes the heart grow fonder..

That’s what they tell me all the time..

We had an awesome Easter Sunday.  Went to Mass.. crowded as usual because of all the Catholics that seem to remember they are Catholic only on Easter and Christmas.. oh ya.. and also Ash Wednesday..

When you are Catholic.. you are Catholic all the time.. you go to Mass every Sunday.. but that rant is for a whole other blog entry.. we are here to talk about Easter..

After Mass we went to visit my cousin and the whole rest of the family.  We all had a good time.. nice bbq..

The kids had a cute egg hunt.. my cousin did a great job hiding some of the eggs that some of the older kids couldn’t find theirs for awhile..

For our family, we have such a wide range of kids we had to develop rules to our egg hunts.. every kid is limited to a certain amount of “non-named” eggs.. and they also have a series of eggs with their specific names on them.. my cousin set it up so that the older they are.. the harder it was  to find the ones with their names on it.

That was actually quite fun helping those lost older ones find their named eggs..

All in all.. that was a very Blessed day for the family.. we celebrated the Resurrection of our Lord with family and love and lots of laughs.. God’s Grace was with us all that day.. as it is with every other day..with which we should all always be thankful..

I added a new category to my blog.. “Church rulez..”

As some of you know, I am a Catholic.. a pretty devout Catholic.. I go to Mass every Sunday.. I volunteer in several ministries in my church.. of course.. I sing in the choir..

I used to be a fairly active listener to the Catholic podcasts.. and participant in various Catholic social media things.. I wish I had more time to devote to that.. but pursuing my MBA has put a damper on the constant listening.. and such.. but I still try to pop in every so often.. I learned so much from those podcasts..

My faith is very important to me.. it even gave up a romantic relationship for my faith.. but we all know that whenever the Lord closes a door.. somewhere He opens a window.. and that’s exactly what He did..

I know I am blessed in many ways.. and I never forget to thank God for all of it..

Today is Good Friday.. a day to remember all that Jesus went through.. all the suffering for our sins..

Let’s keep a prayerful attitude today.. and just remember all He has done for us..
